"Molten City" tour dates
Monday March 12th, 2007
Hi all!
The W2 show (pics) in Den Bosch last Saturday marked the start of our big little “Molten City” tour. With a complete line-up, ‘cause after some hefty personal set backs we’re happy to report that Goslink’s back in our midst this tour. In other words, we’re off, we’re ready and we’re pretty freakin’ excited! Missed out? That’s ok, ‘cause we’re bound to be playing in a town near you this month (that is, if you happen to be a Dutch resident. If not, you’re up for quite a drive).
Here’s the complete schedule once more:
10/03 – High Fidelity, Den Bosch (NL)
10/03 – W2, Den Bosch (NL)
14/03 – Paradiso, Amsterdam (NL)
22/03 – Vera, Groningen (NL) (artikel)
24/03 – Ekko, Utrecht (NL)
31/03 – Sounds, Rotterdam (NL)
05/04 – Lantaren-Venster, Rotterdam (NL)
See you around!

EPTV's Molten City Tour coming up!
Thursday February 22nd, 2007
Well hello there!
Here’s yet another update on the life and times of your humble protagonists, El Pino and the Volunteers.
Time’s passing as we speak and our big little spring tour, aptly dubbed “The Molten City Tour”, is coming closer by the minute. We all look forward to it with great anticipation, but I guess that’s kinda stating the obvious. We have a lot in store for you guys (and girls) and been practicing our proverbial asses off since Noorderslag ‘07. Joe said that tickets are selling like steamy donuts, so be sure not to miss out and get yours in advance at your local ticket dealer. The grand finale (a.k.a. the secret show) will be at Lantaren-Venster, Rotterdam (that’s April 5th, not March 31st like we said before), along with Utrecht’s rising star Storybox. I got to see these guys at Noorderslag where they played one helluva show, so I’m quite proud they’re opening for us.
Here’s the complete tour schedule:
March 10th (sat) – High Fidelity, Den Bosch at 1600hrs (free Instore gig)
March 10th (sat) – W2, Den Bosch at 2000hrs
March 14th (wed) – Paradiso, Amsterdam at 2000hrs
March 22nd (thu) – Vera, Groningen at 2000hrs
March 24th (sat) – Ekko, Utrecht at 2000hrs
March 31st (sat) – Sounds, Rotterdam at 1600hrs (free Instore gig)
April 5th (thu) – Lantaren-Venster, Rotterdam at 2000hrs (with Storybox)
There you go. Don’t you love it when a plan comes together?
Tuesday night we were invited over at 3FM’s Move Your Ass for an interview and live session. For the occasion we were asked to also do a cover of a protest singer, so after some consideration (dropping amongst others Barry McGuire’s apocalyptic Eve Of Destruction in the process) we settled for Steve Earl’s John Walker’s Blues. Gotta love that song.
We met Dutch-Moroccan rapper Ali B. who also happened to be a guest on the show. Funny thing, I always figured that if I’d met him he’d say something along the lines of ‘Hi, I’m Ali B.’, but he just introduced himself as Ali. No B. whatsoever. Anyway, decent guy, nice crew, nice evening. The people from ‘Move Your Arse’ filmed our little show, so don’t be surprised if footage pops up at Youtube (drop the link in the comments if you find any).
That’s all for now. Hope to see you soon!
Noorderslag 2007: the aftermath
Friday January 19th, 2007
Well folks, it’s a wrap. Noorderslag’s over before we could say wienerschnitzel (and believe me, that’s pretty fast). What a way to kick off a new year. We got to play in a record store, inside our beloved van & on stage in front of a whole lotta people, got many a free beverage and got to see many other bands as well, and we’ve got the pictures to prove it, courtesy of the Meister, Daniel Baggerman. Harm couldn’t make it because of his operation and poor Pino had himself a hefty case of the flu, so in the end we really had to pull ourselves together, but we had fun nonetheless. Noorderslag is a great festival, with loads of people and lots of stuff happening everywhere. There was also lots of press around, amongst others an MTV crew, so that’s something else (there’s gonna be a special featuring the latest bunch of Essent Award winners (including us) on MTV soon, I’ll keep you posted).
Afterwards we slept on one of the hotel boats with a bar that closed around 6 AM. Quite a weekend, I’ll tell ya! Big thanks goes out to everybody involved, and especially to Cary & Janne, Excelsior, Rock ‘n Roll highschool & its devoted streetteam, the Noorderslag crew and last but not least Arjen & Monique from Provinsje Fryslân! Thanks again!
Moody Street video
Our little car concerts also marked the official launch of the Moody Street video, shot by his royal highness Johan Kramer. Check out the video below.
Tonight we’ll be at Burgerweeshuis in Deventer. See you there!
All aboard!
Friday January 5th, 2007
Hey all,
Congratulations! If you’re reading this you seem to have made it to another new year. Still have all ten? Good! We do too, in case you’re wondering. And that’s a good thing, because we’ll be needing them next week. Just a week from now the (sold-out) Noorderslag festival will erupt in all its splendor and yours trulies will be there having a field day. And quite a busy field day it is, starting January 13th at 1230hrs. El Pino and the Volunteers will do an in-store show at the Plato in Groningen (sound familiar?). Make sure you’re around, ‘cause afterwards some of you might be in for a treat: At approx. 1400hrs we’re taking a select few passengers aboard the EPTV tour van for an in-car concert to celebrate the release of our new single “Moody Street” and a video by Johan Kramer (remember?) to go with it. Yup yup!
Update: the full video can be viewed at the 3voor12 website!
Here’s a small teaser for ya:
Finally, at 2245hrs, we’ll be playing at the Marathon stage in De Oosterpoort. Regretfully Goslink’s not gonna be there, since he’s still recovering from the operation. Instead, Cary Da Costa will be over to fill in (some of) the blanks. Besides Da Costa we’ll bring another special guest along, so don’t miss out!
Tonight we’re at Radio 1’s LLinke Soep, so tune in around 2000hrs for a live set or check out the stream later on. This Saturday we’re teaming up with Johan (one of the greatest Dutch bands in your author’s sincere opinion) again at R17. Do come over!
Oh, and have I mentioned our upcoming tour? I haven’t, have I? Silly me.
That’s about it for now. Bye bye!
Facts, Moody footage & Noorderslag 2007
Wednesday December 13th, 2006
Ingewikkeld.
Facts. You either like ‘em or you don’t. Fact is I’m quite fond of facts myself. That said, here’s some facts for ya.
Let’s start with the bad: As you may or may not have heard, young mister Goslink’s been having a rather nasty infection inside his right ear for the past year, causing him to have little to no hearing on one side of the hemisphere. Obviously not the easiest of conditions for a musician, I’ll tell you that. It took a pretty hefty 4-hour operation involving all sorts of abracadabra on his eardrum this morning to fix him up again, so we’ll have to do without him for a little while. We hope all went well (too early to tell) and that he’ll soon be fit enough to join us on stage again. Meanwhile, drop your get-well wishes at the comment section below, he’ll appreciate it!
December 7th we were invited at NPS’ Radio 6 for an interview and some stripped-down El Pino tunes. Tjirk, Daaf and yours truly headed over to Hilversum and played acoustic versions of “Moody Street”, “Heads Or Tails” and – trés appropriate – “On The Radio”. Check ‘em out at Radio Voluntario.
We made it to ZooiTV’s annual 10 Best Albums of Zuid-Holland this year! Thank you voters, Ron Miller and ZooiTV crew (rest assured, the prize is being put to good use in our mighty van)!
Noorderslag, the Festival of Festivals, is coming up in little over a month and we’re greatly looking forward to it. ZooiTV will be doing a feature on us with no less than 4 camera’s buzzing and recording the full set, how about that! January will also mark the release of the “Moody Street” video, so these sure are exciting times for your humble Volunteers!
That’s about all for now. Stay tuned, have fun and see you at R17!
